Walking in the Rain

I just got inside after walking around outside in the rain. It started out as a drizzle, and it just kept on drizzling and drizzling until it was pouring and I was soaked to the skin. It was like an all-natural shower (though I wasn't naked). Now I'm inside, snuggling up in a big turquoise sweater with llamas and snowflakes on the button bands and cuffs and wearing the most comfortable sweat pants. I've got a huge cup of hot chocolate to one side and a slice of cold pizza on the other (the two go together surprisingly well). I have a new pair of socks on the needles and a novel to write.

It's been a long time since I've done a 'random' post, hasn't it? I think my last truly random one was back in January! It looks like a lot of my posts about the weather seem to fit nicely into the random slot, I suppose because my mind tends to wander when it's raining or snowing out.

My sister is making muffins currently. If she doesn't share with me, a combination of the Hufflepuff and Slytherin inside me will force a few of those pumpkin cream cheese muffins into my stomach. On the topic of food, I have now finished my hot chocolate and pizza and I'm only somewhat full. I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, because they were very liberal helpings of both. My stomach must be growing. Or these sweat pants allow me to eat more than I normally could.

And now I have to go and either do some knitting or writing. See you soon!

Doctor Who Day, 2012

Exactly two years ago yesterday was the very first time I watched Doctor Who. Exactly one year ago yesterday was the day me and my friend Rose had a sleepover to celebrate our one year anniversary of Whovianity. Yesterday was the day we baked Doctor Who cookies and figured out how old Amy Pond was and how long she and Rory have been married.

We baked sugar cookies in the afternoon  and then after dinner we cut them out and baked them.

Who is this Docy- Thor person, and why is he impersonating a Norse god?

Since it was Artemis's 16th/ 19th birthday on the first of September and we had lots of extra cookie dough, we made him some cookies too.

From the left, Rose, Anya (me), and Rose's evil and identical twin sister, whose cheery smile isn't fooling anybody.

As you can see, we forgot to make the 'D' in 'Day', so Rose did the honors of cutting one out of paper. It wasn't edible, but at least we didn't have cookies spelling out 'Doctor Who Ay'.

Happy birthday, Arty. May we never delay it by almost two weeks again.

And what a day for the Rolling Stone to publish this:

What a great day from start to finish... apart from having to do geometry, all my other school, and nearly getting sick on cookie dough.

Next year... will be even better.

Loki. On an apple.

I give my friend Rose all the credit for this idea. She did it before me. But I did it too, and I took a picture, so I'm giving myself credit for the photo.

(Technically, I should give the camera credit for the photo, because I'm a terrible photographer and the quality of the picture is entirely due to the camera)

The face is mine and Rose's all-time (no. not all time. About two weeks, though) Universal (so what if only we know about it. We are the most important people in the Universe, so...) sign for Loki. An evil face and a nice smile. My smile isn't very good, because the knife wasn't particularly easy to work with.

Catching Up

Her Majesty Princess Carmen thoughtfully sent me several photographs of her hair as it had been done by skillful hands. I attempted to copy one of these in my friend Rose's hair:
It was actually pretty easy, but it was also time consuming. The six braids criss-crossed in the back took a long time...

I also did a similar hairstyle, but played around differently with the afore mentioned six braids:
I though this one was really pretty, too. I just braided the little braids together in sets of two.

And a week ago or so, I did this to Mary Margaret:
Three braids, pulled across the back of the head and added into a vertical roll bun. I was pleased with it.

And today, while helping with dinner, I put a bit of my childish artistic talent into good use:
My life in the past few days. What I do when I'm not writing. I can tell you, that's a lot more time than it should be...

shawarma

If the Avengers eat shawarma, I should eat it too, right?

Well, that's how it was with Doctor Who and fish fingers and custard (which is delicious, by the way).

On Saturday evening, I made shawarma. Actually, I made shawarma Friday evening through to Saturday evening, because the chicken had to marinate all through the night.

That part wasn't fun... handling raw chicken almost made me a vegetarian right then and there. A very sick vegetarian.

Luckily I didn't have to do a lot with it after I put it in the fridge Friday night. In fact, I don't think I even looked at it until the next afternoon.

I guess I should explain what shawarma is, for all you people i haven't already told. Basically, it's what the Avengers eat at the end of The Avengers. It's also chicken/cucumbers/tahini/tomatoes/yogurt/parsley/pickles laid on top of a pita bread and rolled into a burrito.
I burned the tahini (I know, how did I manage to do that?) so I made a yogurt sauce instead, which I actually like more than tahini anyway.

It was delicious. I can now say that I have had shawarma, which basically makes me part of the Avengers. Right?
